Support a Child

Junita is in 8th grade and goes into 9th grade in July. The school year is almost 11 months a year, going to school 6 days a week. Junita has a sweet smile and uses her smile quite often during the day. We also know that this may be part of her  missing her parents. Junita, at the previous home, was the other three children's mother. She got the older siblings up early to get a bath and prepare for going to school. But there was usually no time for breakfast.

When they got home from school, she would get the rice and make a meal for her brother and sisters and herself. She did not have any meat or vegetables for their grandmother was very poor also. Grandma did not care if they went to school or not and did not help them with any school work. Junita was the recipient of a couple of confrontations with grandma that blood was drawn from a wooden spoon that she had used.

This is what prompted an aunt to get in touch with us when she heard of Cikal Hope for Children.  Junita looks after her siblings with care with the love she has for them tries to protect them from harm. When she entered the Cikal house, she saw the white board with English on it, and she exclaimed "English, I get to learn English."

Junita is the oldest at the breakfast table. Before any of them can start eating, she will either offer up a prayer to God to thank Him for where they are and what they are about to partake, or she will ask one of the older ones to lead in prayer. She does not have to be reminded of praying to God.

Junita and Demma are beginning their breakfast. Junita is so happy that she does not have to cook any more meals that she now volunteers to clean up after meals, if she has time and also will wash and dry them without being asked. Those bananas that you see are about half the length or less, of USA bananas and are sweeter as they pick them off the trees when they are about ripe. The meals are eaten at the Tobing house where the cook, Hannah, will not let anyone else stand in front of the stove or wok. Hannah also looks forward to doing all the new wash that will now need to be done.

Junita has finished breakfast and is now waiting for the other children to finish their breakfast and then off to catch the bus for school.
