Demma is a 6 year old that has come to Cikal Hope for Children with a serious skin condition on her legs and arms. Her guardians did not look after her in how she was taking baths. Her legs became covered with boils caused by lack of cleaning thoroughly. In Indonesia, each person will take a complete bath each day along with an at least 2 additional rinse-off baths, When Demma came the first day, Mrs. Tobing, our cook, nurse, and mother to Angela, said that we can clear it up and not to be worried. Three weeks later, she is almost to having the condition in total remission.

Era is a shy little girl and depends on her siblings to give her protection and safety. Even though she is so shy, she has adapted to the Tobing family, and especially to Angela who is not her "mother" and has the security within herself as she opens up each day, a little more.

Era got the biggest smile the first day she was part of the Cikal family as she picked out the special Teddy Bear that awaited her at the Cikal house. The Teddy Bear was a gift that was received from a wonderful woman in Denver, Colorado, that gave Joe 8 teddy bears for the children at Cikal. This gracious woman has an income of less that $700 per month.

Will you support Demma?

The first two pictures are from the first day at Cikal. The one to the right looks like Demma is thinking "Is this all for me to eat?". At the previous home she was living at with her brother and sisters, they got one meal a day which consisted of rice ......... only. Here she has rice, meat, milk, bananas, and a sweet role. She was not accustomed to drinking milk. Instead of one meal a day, she now has 3 meals a day which includes a dessert of some kind. She will soon be back to being a healthy young girl, full of energy.

When Demma came to us, she had these boil type scally legs. They were from her not being cleaned properly when taking bathes. After three weeks of good food to eat and proper cleaning, her legs are normal.
